| Friends
of UNRWA Overview |
The Friends of UNRWA Association in our inaugural
year has been provided with a grant for general operating funds.
As a result, all contributions received during this year will
go directly for the benefit of refugees through UNRWA programs.
The Friends of UNRWA has agreed to adopt programs
for funding purposes that we believe are achievable: programs
that support leadership development amongst students and
programs that help refugees
to help themselves.
We are supporting leadership development through
sports by funding sports facilities for youth sports programs. Our first project will be to re-build soccer
fields, indoor and outdoor basketball courts at UNRWA’s
Siblin Vocational Training Center in Lebanon.

Non-communicable diseases (diabetes, heart disease,
high blood pressure, etc) and posttraumatic stress disorders
have significantly increased in recent years. Friends of UNRWA
will purchase equipment for health care clinics so that refugees
waiting for extended periods of time will be able to view health
care and preventative health care messages via DVD/ TV monitors.
UNRWA doctors see an average of 175 patients per day and patients
along with several family members accompanying them often must
wait for long periods of time before being seen by medical staff.
The Agency's network of 122 primary health care facilities are
located both inside and outside refugee camps in the five areas
of operations: Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank and Gaza.

We plan to further develop a unique curriculum created by
UNRWA teaching conflict resolution and human rights to more than
500,000 refugee children in UNRWA schools in all five areas of
operations. For more information please

As the Association moves forward and other special
projects develop we will post them on our website and welcome
your support. General contributions and emergency aid contributions
for UNRWA, in addition to the above-designated programs, are
always welcome.
