Palestine Refugee Youth Participate in 2006 Beirut Marathon

From all over Lebanon, Palestine refugee youth participated in the 2006 Beirut Marathon. Nearly 300 young people walked or ran the Marathon with one-third of the participants young women. The participants represented: Ein El Helwih, Bourj El Barajneh, Nahr El Bared, Sabra and Shatila Camps.

Special thanks to May El Khalil, President and Founder of the Beirut Marathon and to Mark Dickinson, Managing Director, who generously offered registration to Friends of UNRWA and UNRWA for all runners. In addition, we want to thank all those in the UNRWA Lebanon Field Office and the staff of the Children & Youth Centre – Shatila who made it possible for the participants to join the Marathon event.
