UNRWA employs over 25,000 staff, of whom more than 99 per cent are Palestinian refugees. The UN in New York covers the cost of 110 international posts. UNRWA’s human development work is labor intensive and local staff costs account for two-thirds of the Agency’s regular budget.
UNRWA’s operations are carried out by field offices located in each of the five fields: in Amman for Jordan, in Beirut for Lebanon, in Damascus for Syria, in East Jerusalem for the West Bank and in Gaza City for the Gaza Strip. The Agency’s headquarters are in Gaza and Amman and there are liaison offices in New York and Geneva.
