Thousands of refugees from the Nahr el-Bared camp (NBC) in
Lebanon have been displaced by the current crisis – over
6,000 families more than 27,000 refugees have fled their
homes in NBC.
The majority of the NBC displaced refugees fled to nearby
Beddawi Camp where many families are housed
in UNRWA schools and with families in Beddawi; while others
have moved to camps and families across Lebanon. In
less than two weeks the population of Beddawi camp increased from 16,000 to around 37,000
jeopardizing the
lives of inhabitants stretching the already over-crowded
living conditions.
“The situation in
the camps was already extremely difficult and now it has
deteriorated even further. This fighting has placed
refugees in the front line and I am very concerned about the
precarious situation in which they find themselves.
Life in Beddawi Camp has become
unbearable and I appeal to donors to help us take immediate
action.”
Karen AbuZayd,
Commissioner General of UNRWA
We need
your help to provide emergency services and care for the
children, the families, the injured, and the elderly all of
whom have fled their homes in
Nahr
el-Bared.
The
Friends of UNRWA Association
is asking you to generously
donate to our emergency appeal to provide critical
humanitarian assistance such as temporary housing, supplies, medical
and food relief. Your help is urgently
needed in order for UNRWA to provide emergency assistance to
Palestine refugees in Lebanon.
"The situation in Nahr el-Bared has rendered thousands of
refugees homeless.
Were it not for the emergency
humanitarian assistance and shelter provided by UNRWA, these
families would have nowhere to turn for help.
We look
to Americans to generously support our campaign to provide
emergency aid to the displaced refugees of Nahr el-Bared
through Friends of UNRWA."
